The Next Big Thing -  The top 10 questions for an Author.

terran chronicles universe blogThank you Scott Robinson for passing on the 'Next Big Thing Blog Hop' to me

Who knows what 'The Next Big Thing' will be? I feel that most writers believe their work could be it!. I know I do, and I do not say that with arrogance but rather with confidence. At the end of the day though, only you, the reader will decide what that will be. Part of this programme is to answer a few questions, to help provide a greater insight into an authors mind. Well what follows is but a glimpse into mine. Please enjoy.

1) What is the working title of your next book?
The next book in the Terran Chronicles series is called 'Colony'

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?
I believe so strongly that humanity needs to spread to the stars, that this story became an integral part of my overall storyline. It just took until book three before I could begin to explore this facet of the plot.

3) What genre does your book fall under?
The saga is definitely science fiction though this particular story could also fall under expansionist or empirical themes.

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Matthew Broderick's versatility would work well with the way George develops throughout the series. His wife Lisa, could be played by Angelina Jolie. Meg Ryan would enhance Cindy, propelling her to new heights as the series develops. Daniel Craig would make an excellent Peter, especially as book three draws on previously unknown elements to the man's character. Jackie Chan would breathe an amazing amount of life into Hayato just as Ryan Reynolds would to Radclyf. Leonardo DiCaprio would play an amazing Joe, he has a lot of hidden strengths and resolve. Morgan Freeman has played an impressive American President and could do so again. Robert Downey Junior would play the character Edwards very well. Finally the character Henry, 'Pots', he would be well played by Christopher Walker.

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Humanity finally achieves its long awaited goal of colonizing another planet, despite the threat of a global war on Earth.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
'Colony', just as the other books in the series will be self published. This avenue allows anyone with a computer or just about any eReader access to my work.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
As this book is a part of a series, let me break this down. The briefest of synopsis was written back in 2010 and took a few weeks. 2010 was when the entire series was rough drafted and that process alone took almost a year. Once I got to Colony itself, it took another four months to factor in all the events and nuances.

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
So many works, such as Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation' saga, have been an inspiration. But how do I compare this story to any one book. Robert Heinlein's 'Green Hills of Earth', 'Farmer in the Sky', and 'Starman Jones' amongst others, provided impetus toward 'Colony'

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I have wanted to write a series for a long time. I either started to write, or wrote short stories which ending up gathering dust. Really, some are so old they are on paper, yellow curled up paper to be sure. Then one day I looked in the mirror, metaphorically speaking, and said 'I need to do, and not wish I had done'. It was really that simple to get my mindset ready for the arduous task of writing for hours on end, day after day.

10) What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?
The end of each book in the series incorporates a 'secret code'. These codes are used to unlock bonus short stories, one per book. Those without these codes people can still read the short stories, for a very small fee.

Well that is the end of 'The Next Big Thing' blog hop questionnaire. I do hope you have enjoyed what you have read. Now, go and buy the Terran Chronicles eBooks so I can be the Next Big Thing. :)

Take it easy mates.
